Fees, Fines and Payouts Explained

Westside 8 Ball League Fee/Payout Structure

There are three types of fees that players and teams are responsible for when participating in the Westside 8 Ball League.  These fees include Team Registration Fee and weekly dues, and individual BCA registration.  These fees are collected and added to a kitty which then gets paid out at the end of the season.  There are a few types of payouts as well.  These include 8ball breaks and table runs, a flat amount per win, and a team payout based on the place you come in.  There has been some confusion about fees and payouts, so this document seeks to clarify all issues regarding money and the Westside 8 Ball League.

Fees (This has changed as of the 2016-2017 season):

First, the Team Registration Fee $80.  Every team must pay this fee.  If a bar has 2 teams on Tuesday night and 2 teams on Wednesday night, all 4 of these teams must pay this fee.  Sometimes the bar will sponsor a portion of this fee (usually $25/team,) but this is not mandatory.  It is up to the players on the team, specifically the captain, to get this fee paid.  If they can convince the bar to sponsor them, that is up to them.  If they can’t, they must pay the fee themselves.

This single $80 fee covers all players, subs, and registration fees for the entire season.  This was voted in after the 2015-2016 season in an attempt to simplify fees and still bring in a similar amount of dues as in past years.

On the standings page, each team will have a Dues Owed number which amounts to the number of weeks of play times $40, plus $80 for the registration fee.  This number is then subtracted by what is paid each week.  This should vastly simplify paying dues.

Aside from these fees, as of the 2016-2017 season the league membership voted to resume being a BCA sponsored league.  As such, every player who plays more than 1 match (more than 4 games) is required to pay a $15 BCA registration fee.  This fee is separate from any other fee paid, and goes directly to BCA so it isn’t included in the prize fund.

Payouts:

At the end of the season, the fees are handed out as follows:

$5 for every 8 ball on the break or table run (a table run is defined as a game in which the breaker pockets a ball, and continues to pocket balls until his or her group is all pocketed, and then pockets the 8 ball legally to win without giving his opponent a turn at the table.

$2.00 for every Honor Roll (defined as a player who wins all 4 games on a given night.  Winning via forfeit voids honor roll payment for that night.)

$2.50 for every win.

Once this money is taken out, along with league expenses (expenses include president, vp, and secretary pay, food for end of season party, website expenses, paper to print scoresheets, etc.) the leftover is divided on a set percentage scale for each place.  There are payout scales available for review on the Westside 8 ball website for leagues consisting of as few as 8 teams and as many as 16 teams.  If a season ends up with more or less teams, a payout scale will be devised and posted before the half way point of the season.

Fines:

At the end of the season, any unpaid fees will be met with a fine of equal value.  If a team owes $10, then $20 will be taken out of their payout at the end of the season – $10 to cover what is owed and another $10 for the fine.  If a team ends up owing more than they receive in payouts, they must pay the difference before being allowed to rejoin the league for a subsequent season.  The Secretary/Treasurer of the league can be contacted for any clarifications with regards to Payouts, Fees and Fines.  Their contact info will be available on the website as well.
