2017-2018 Season Wrap Up

The end of season payout and awards event was a success.  We had a great turnout and a competitive scotch doubles tournament.  Oswald Colunga cooked up some incredible tacos and the drinks were flowing.

The first order of business was to hold officer elections for the 2018-2019 season.  The membership decided to keep the current setup:

President – Pete Savino
Vice President – Angela Aquino
Secretary/Treasurer – Mike Schwartz

Most of the BCA ID cards were handed out, but if you weren’t there to receive your card you can pick it up at 90 West Lounge.

We then voted in 3 rule changes which will be reflected in the 2018-2019 season’s rules.  They are as follows:

Timeouts:  There will now only be 1 time-out per game instead of 2.  The time-out can only be initiated by the player playing the match, and should be kept to 60 seconds.  If the opponent thinks the time-out is taking too long, they can start a 60 second clock and when the clock reaches 0, the time-out ends and the player must shoot.  If there is already a history of slow time-outs the opposing team can start the clock immediately upon the time-out being called.  None of this is different than pervious years rules other than the change from 2 time-outs per game to 1.

Here is a link to a tap timer for anyone with an android phone.  You can set the timer to 60 seconds and just tap the screen to start it, tap again to start the timer over, and the display is big enough to be easily seen.  This can help if you need to put someone on the clock for slow play.

Secondary Table Run:  A secondary table run now pays $2 at the end of the season.  A secondary table run is defined as follows:  The breaker breaks and does not make a ball.  The opponent comes to the table and runs out.  “Does not make a ball” includes a scratch.  If the opponent comes to the table with ball in hand, they are not eligible for a secondary table run.  Scoresheets will be redesigned to add a line for the secondary table run and these must be marked just like 8 ball breaks, table runs and honor rolls.

Optional Rack Your Own:  The breaker now has the option to rack their own rack.  This can be done immediately, or if the breaker doesn’t like the rack given to them by their opponent.  All racks must be legal.  The 8 ball must be in the middle position and the bottom corner balls must be of different groups (one stripe and one solid.) After the rules votes, the money was distributed.  Neither Gabe’s 2 or Scarlet Lady 3 were not in attendance to pick up their envelopes so the payout envelopes for those 2 teams are at 90 West Lounge.  A time should be set up with Angela Aquino to pick them up.

Finally, we held our annual scotch doubles tournament.  Here are the results:

4th Place:  Suzie Kang and Darrell McCullough
3rd Place: Renaldo Bartholomew and Travis Schenck
2nd Place:  Lawrence Weisdorn and Van Tuck
1st Place:  Ben Khoe and Malik Folkes

Congratulations to all and thanks for a great league!  We’ll start up again sometime in September, so start thinking about getting teams together for the upcoming season.
